Discovr Private Alpha Release :D

Today I will start sharing access to our private Alpha.

Discovr is the recommendation engine for media apps: people sign in, pick a profile, and get a home screen of changing rows and pages that keeps up with what the user watch. The goal of Discovr is to replicate the discovery experience you would expect from major Streaming Apps.

This is an alpha, so expect rough edges. The goal here is to monitor serving stability of the recommendation system while we work towards implementing personalized pages for every profile.

For version 1.0 of the Alpha recommendations are primarily driven by Global Popularity. I plan to change this soon.

For Viewers Profiles

  • Create, edit, delete and switch profiles

  • Profiles maintain their own history/state and recommendations.

Multi-Page Recommendations

  • Discovr is built on navigable pages, each page have a series of ever changing rows.

    • Media Rows: Shows Media recommendations.

    • Navigation Rows: Rows that drill-down to a new navigable page.

  • Users can also choose which Streaming Providers they like or are subscribed to. This unlocks the ability to navigate pages specific to a provider. E.g Netflix recommendations.

  • Current drill downs are:

    • Popular Genres, Moods and Streaming providers with a max depth of 3.
What developers get

I'm a Machine Learning engineer and the fun part for me is making a recommendation algorithm people enjoy to use. The clients that users use I don't currently have any plan to maintain. I have made https://app.discovr.media as a testing/example space while building Discovr but there is no way for users to actually watch media on it, and there are already much better made Apps that do this anyway.

I hope that clients looking to a "Streaming Service" like experience to their media app can instead use Discovr this way I can focus purely on the algorithmic side of things.

An API built for Agentic Development

  • Our docs (https://docs.discovr.media) are optimized for coding agents like Claude, Codex/GPT, Cursor and Antigravity.

  • Custom MCP/Skills are available to install. Using this creating a new client of onboarding Discovr to an existing media App should be seamless your agent should have all the context it needs to integrate as easily as possible.

Three SDKs backed by single API

  • Currently maintain SDKs in TypeScript, Kotlin and Swift as well as a direct REST API.

  • SDKs are recommended over the REST API since I implemented common helpers like Auth management and live listeners.

Auth & Profile Management

  • Both Web Auth Flow and TV Auth Flows supported.

  • Discovr handles profile management, for you so clients just need to sync with whats there.

Especially at the beginning I want to monitor how well the current system can scale, I believe it should be able to handle a pretty substantial amount of traffic but you never know.
